Get the bikini body you desire with Yogalates
By Maggie Robert
New, exciting workout trends are emerging everywhere, and now more than ever working out can be a fun activity to do with friends on your down time this summer – instead of a chore you loathe. Yoglates and Bikram yoga, commonly known as “hot yoga,” are some of the latest classes being offered at select gyms in the Baton Rouge area.
Hot yoga is a form of yoga incorporating a series of traditional yoga poses and breathing exercises done in a heated room. The room is usually maintained at a temperature of 95-105 degrees with 40% humidity. Yoga done in a heated studio is said to facilitate deeper stretching, injury prevention and stress and tension relief. The body becomes more flexible as a result of the sweating. The exercise is also said to restore health to every muscle, joint, and organ of the body. It may be difficult to go from a 105 degree room, out into the Louisiana heat, but you will not regret the total-body relaxation and stress relief. Make sure to stay hydrated before, after and during the class. A nice dip in the pool at your local gym may be a perfect way to end your workout.
For a bit more of an exhilarating experience, yoglates, a fitness program developed right here in Baton Rouge, is also a great option. Don Yesso brought yoglates to Baton Rouge after studying yoga in California and India. He was also assistant coach to the LSU power lifting team, leading them to the championships. Yoglates is a combination of calisthenics, yoga, and pilates. Yesso developed a series of movements from these three different styles designed to give a complete cardiovascular, strength, and balancing workout. The poses are demonstrated by an instructor in the classes and if done correctly, they work together to improve the lymphatic and internal organs of the body in combination with the skeletal and muscular structure of the entire physique. Many athletic coaches at LSU swear by Yesso’s program for their players. Yesso’s yoglates studio is conveniently located on College near Perkins. Students can try out a class for only eight dollars, private lessons are offered as well.
If your work-out routine has become repetitive and something you dread, classes such as these should liven things up and help you get the body you desire.
